Health services in Meru and Isiolo counties have been paralyzed after medical practitioners went on strike on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, over unresolved labour issues.

• The strike, led by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), was prompted by delayed promotions, non-remittance of statutory deductions, and staff shortages, with some medics reporting stagnation for over 10 years.
• Upper Eastern KMPDU Secretary Timothy Muriuki stated that the strike would continue until demands are met, affecting services in all hospitals.
• Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma announced that his administration is in the process of promoting 512 health workers and appealed for an end to the strike.
