Citizen-led initiatives are breathing new life into Kenya's natural ecosystems and improving livelihoods by focusing on restoration and conservation efforts.

• Over 5,000 trees have been planted in forest ecosystems as part of efforts to increase tree cover and restore degraded landscapes.
• Environmentalist Anthony Khisa, through the Adopt-a-Tree initiative, is spearheading the planting of indigenous fruit-bearing trees in schools and partnering with organizations like the Kenya Forest Service and Rotary clubs.
• The Adopt-a-River initiative is also seeing communities, such as those in the Waruku area of Kangemi, actively cleaning and rehabilitating sections of the River Nairobi, leading to improved water quality and reduced waterborne diseases.
