The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is accelerating the expansion of the Port of Mombasa by constructing a new berth, Berth 19B, to accommodate rising cargo volumes.

• The new berth will add 240 metres of quay length and a draft depth of 15 metres, capable of handling larger vessels up to approximately 45,000 deadweight tonnage.
• The project is a key initiative by the Kenya Ports Authority, aiming to increase annual handling capacity by an additional 300,000 TEUs.
• This expansion is part of a broader strategy to maintain the port's position as East and Central Africa's premier logistics hub, with the French government also investing over Ksh106 billion in terminal upgrades.
