A Ugandan drug trafficker, Anne Birungi Bisaso, has been freed by the High Court after serving over 15 years for drug trafficking, with the court ruling her continued imprisonment amounted to unequal treatment.

• Bisaso was arrested in 2010 at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with cocaine worth Sh84 million.
• She successfully argued that her co-accused, John Mugisha, was released after serving what amounted to a lesser sentence, thus violating her right to equality before the law.
• The High Court noted no distinction in their culpability and ordered her release and deportation to Uganda.
