The United States has pledged an additional Ksh2.59 billion (US$20 million) to bolster Ebola preparedness in Kenya and three other East African nations. This new funding increases the U.S. total contribution to over Ksh28.4 billion (US$220 million) for regional Ebola response efforts.

• The additional funds will support national emergency operations centres, enhance disease surveillance and testing, improve border screening, and strengthen infection control measures.

• The announcement was made following a meeting between President William Ruto and U.S. Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos in Oslo, Norway, where they discussed bilateral cooperation in combating the virus.
