Faith leaders and fishers will convene at the Ocean Interfaith Forum in Mombasa on June 15th, 2026, to integrate the moral authority of coastal communities into global ocean governance, just before Kenya hosts the 11th Our Ocean Conference.
- The forum will see the global launch of Faiths for 30×30: The Faith High Ambition Coalition for Ocean and Nature Action, a new platform for faith communities to make concrete pledges for ocean protection.
- Approximately 50 invited participants will attend, including senior faith leaders from Islamic, Christian, and Hindu traditions, Indigenous custodians, artisanal fishers, and government representatives.
- Structured discussions will focus on aligning faith commitments with the global 30x30 conservation target, the intersection of faith with fisheries, and addressing the severe pressures on Mombasa’s blue economy, including governance failures and IUU fishing.
