The Kenyan government has unveiled a record Sh784.5 billion budget for the education sector, with significant allocations to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), though the absorption of intern teachers into permanent roles has been deferred.

The TSC is set to receive Sh424 billion, an increase from Sh290 billion in 2022.
Approximately 20,000 intern teachers will be converted to permanent and pensionable terms starting January 2027.
The budget includes Sh4.9 billion for this conversion and Sh8.2 billion for the recruitment of new intern teachers.
