An audit has uncovered irregularities in allowance payments totaling over Sh600 million to Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) across at least 17 counties between June 2024 and June 2025.

• A significant portion, Sh303.7 million, could not be accounted for by the Nairobi County Assembly regarding impairment allowances.
• The audit was conducted by Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu.
• Irregularities include unsupported claims for sitting, mileage, travel, and housing allowances, often paid contrary to Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines.
