The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has rejected calls from car dealers to revert to the old system for distributing Dealer Registration (KD) plates.

• The authority cited security concerns and the need for improved vehicle traceability as reasons for maintaining the current framework.
• NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa stated the old system created accountability gaps and made it difficult to trace vehicles involved in security incidents.
• Car dealers in Mombasa protested on June 15, claiming the new regulations have disrupted vehicle movement and increased costs.
