Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust has demanded an immediate halt to the construction of a new airstrip within the Upper Imenti Forest Reserve, citing serious environmental and legal concerns.

• Rhino Ark, a conservation partner that has invested over KSh 1 billion in the Mt. Kenya ecosystem, insists that no public participation or Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) has been conducted.
• The airstrip is being built in a critical elephant habitat and a vital water catchment area for the Tana and Ewaso Nyiro river systems.
• Rhino Ark suggests upgrading the existing Gaitu Airstrip as a more cost-effective and environmentally sound alternative.
