The Ahero Irrigation Scheme is set for a significant upgrade totaling Sh5.1 billion, aiming to enhance food security and modernize operations.

• A Sh4.2 billion grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be used to rehabilitate the scheme.
• The National Irrigation Authority (NIA) is also in advanced talks for Sh700 million to transition to solar power.
• The scheme, one of Kenya's oldest established in 1966, primarily cultivates rice, producing approximately 58,374 tonnes annually.
