Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah is demanding urgent action from the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to address the perilous state of the Kisumu-Busia highway, citing frequent accidents and deteriorating road conditions.

• The senator highlighted that large sections of the 352-kilometre highway are riddled with potholes, poor markings, and inadequate signage, contributing to a high number of preventable accidents.
• Senator Okiya Omtatah specifically called for the immediate repair of damaged sections, a public roadmap for upgrading and expansion, and the dualling of identified blackspots.
• This plea comes as President William Ruto previously announced construction plans for over 500 kilometres of highway, including this corridor, with initial funding discussions dating back to 2016 with a budget of approximately KSh 41.6 billion, which later increased significantly.
