The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced stricter vehicle inspection rules and new fees, including for private cars, effective July 1, 2026.

• All vehicles older than four years from manufacture date will require annual inspections, impacting thousands of motorists.
• Motorists will face new booking and inspection fees, with owners of vehicles below 3,000cc paying up to Ksh2,000.
• Inspections will also be mandatory for modified, salvaged, or re-registered vehicles, with non-compliance risking fines up to Ksh20,000 or imprisonment.
