The United States has sent an experimental Ebola drug to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to support clinical trials aimed at combating the ongoing outbreak.

• The drug, MBP134, developed by Mapp Biopharmaceutical, will be used for compassionate treatment and clinical trials in the DRC.
• The outbreak has resulted in over 1,000 cases and more than 250 deaths.
• This marks a policy shift, as the drug was previously restricted primarily for use within the United States.
