Kenya has signed a new agreement aiming to regain its position as Rwanda's primary fuel transit route. This pact allows Rwanda to utilize the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) network for fuel imports, potentially shifting business away from Tanzania.
- Expected transit fuel volumes through Kenya are projected to grow from 50,000 to over 500,000 cubic metres per year.
- The deal was signed between Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) and Rwanda National Energy Company (RNEC), witnessed by Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Opiyo Wandayi and Rwanda's Minister of Trade and Industry Antoine-Marie Kajangwe.
- KPC is offering RNEC an extended storage period of up to 90 days for fuel products, significantly longer than the current 35 days for other companies, to make the route more attractive.
