U.S. Senator Jim Risch has called for a review of America's security relationship with Uganda following the shutdown of two major independent media outlets.

The decision to close Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda was reportedly ordered by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni.
Senator Risch, Chairperson of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, stated that Kainerugaba and the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) are "unfit partners" due to attacks on free speech.
The outlets, owned by Nation Media Group (NMG), were shut down on Sunday, June 28, with military personnel reportedly deployed to block access.
