Kenya's National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has temporarily suspended its directive for mandatory annual inspections of private vehicles due to capacity concerns, following public outcry and legal challenges.

• NTSA currently operates only 17 motor vehicle inspection centers nationally.
• The planned rollout of annual inspections for private vehicles older than four years has been postponed until early next year.
• The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has filed a court petition challenging the regulations, citing lack of public participation and unlawful creation of financial obligations and criminal offenses.
