Rwanda has issued a stern warning about the ongoing threat of genocide ideology in the Great Lakes region, urging for decisive regional and international action against hate speech and ethnic extremism.

• The warning was delivered by Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Ernest Rwamucyo, during celebrations for the 32nd Anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation Day.
• Genocide ideology remains a "real and present danger" nearly three decades after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
• The situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo was highlighted as an example of extremist groups spreading ethnic hatred and genocide denial.
