Facing numerous challenges in the miraa sub-sector, farmers and stakeholders are turning to divine intervention through a special mass dedicated to the crop. The event is organized by the Nyambene Miraa Trade Association (Nyamita) and the Catholic Church.

This prayer event is scheduled for September 4, 2026, at Maili Tatu grounds, presided over by Bishop Reverend Jackson Murugara.
Nyamita spokesman Kimathi Munjuri stated the initiative is due to the sector's decline since the 2014 ban in the United Kingdom and reduced exports to Somalia.
The miraa economy is estimated to earn over Sh13 billion annually, but this wealth is not felt locally, with import tax earnings declining from $17.1 million in 2024 to $16.8 million in 2025.
