The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has launched a significant infrastructure project to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line directly into the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), aiming to resolve the lingering "last-mile" transport problem for passengers arriving in the capital.

A new 15-kilometer high-capacity SGR link will connect Nairobi Terminus in Syokimau to Nairobi Central Station.
This extension is a crucial component of the larger Sh28 billion Nairobi Railway City project.
The project will feature new passenger stations at Imara Daima, Makadara, and the CBD, and includes significant civil engineering works.
