The Kisumu County government has officially opened the Baby Pendo Botanical Park, nine years after the tragic death of six-month-old Samantha Pendo, also known as Baby Pendo. The park serves as a memorial to her and a public recreational space.

• Baby Pendo died in August 2017 from severe head injuries sustained during a police operation, becoming a symbol against police brutality.
• The park was unveiled by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga.
• The memorial aims to preserve Baby Pendo's memory, promote peace, justice, and accountability, and provide a space for remembrance and healing for affected families.
