A report by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has raised concerns about the inspection capabilities of Quality Inspection Services Japan (QISJ), Kenya's sole pre-shipment vehicle inspection firm for imports from Japan.

• TBS found that QISJ sites in Japan lacked mandatory inspection equipment like airbag scanners and battery testers.
• QISJ has held a monopoly on pre-shipment inspections for vehicles imported to Kenya for over a decade.
• Questions are now being raised about the validity of clearances issued by QISJ for vehicles imported into Kenya over the last 10 years.
