Kenya’s National Biosafety Authority (NBA) has urged research institutions to strictly adhere to biosafety protocols for Confined Field Trials (CFTs) involving genetically modified organisms (GMOs), emphasizing the importance of containment to protect people, animals, and the environment.

• The NBA, represented by Acting CEO Dr. Ann Karimi, inspected GMO research at KALRO facilities in Muguga and Kandara, noting high compliance levels.
• A delegation from Senegal's National Biosafety Authority visited to learn from Kenya's regulatory framework for GMO research and biosafety.
• Kenya has approved numerous GMO crops for CFTs, including Bt cotton (already commercialized), Bt maize, GM cassava, and GM potatoes, with some nearing commercialization.
