Anthropic has begun displaying subscription prices for its AI chatbot, Claude, in Indian rupees for users in India. This marks the first time the company has localized pricing beyond the US dollar.

• India now sees Claude Pro at ₹2,000 (~$21) monthly on an annual plan, Max at ₹11,999 (~$125) monthly, and Team at ₹2,399 (~$25) per user monthly, which includes 18% GST.
• Kenya, however, still pays in US dollars, with an additional 16% VAT on top of the $20 monthly fee for Claude Pro, resulting in approximately KES 3,000.
• This move by Anthropic to localize pricing in India, its second-largest market, contrasts with Kenya's experience, highlighting a lack of true localization and more affordable tiers for African users.
