Nairobi has significantly boosted its wastewater treatment capacity with major upgrades to the Ruai and planned expansions at the Kariobangi Sewerage Treatment Plants. These initiatives aim to improve sanitation and manage the city's growing wastewater volumes.

• The Ruai Sewerage Treatment Plant's capacity has doubled to 320,000 cubic metres per day.
• Led by Governor Johnson Sakaja, the Nairobi County Government is spearheading these upgrades in collaboration with the National Government.
• A new 54-kilometre trunk sewer network along the Nairobi River corridor is also under construction, designed to serve the city for the next 50 years and help restore the river's environment.
