A significant portion of money saved for Kenya's affordable housing program is being withdrawn by prospective buyers, according to recent data. Refunds from the Boma Yangu platform have nearly reached half of the total funds collected.

Sh2.56 billion has been withdrawn by Kenyans from the Boma Yangu platform.
This represents nearly half of the Sh5.47 billion mobilized for the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).
The State Department for Housing states that these refunds are a normal function of the voluntary savings scheme.
A special audit covering July 2020 to May 2025 revealed a substantial increase in these refunds.
