Kenya's air passenger traffic reached a record 13.1 million in the year to June 2026, a 1% increase, driven by a surge in domestic travel despite a global aviation slowdown.

• Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) reported a rise of approximately 145,000 passengers, pushing total traffic from 12.955 million in the previous year.
• This growth defied a global decline attributed to the Middle East conflict, which impacted international traffic but boosted domestic travel and saw Kenya Airways benefit from increased demand as Middle Eastern airlines were grounded.
• The KAA Managing Director, Moses Wekesa, noted that while international traffic was affected by the Middle East war, domestic travel provided the main impetus for growth.
