The Kenyan government has established a multi-agency team tasked with developing a framework for the safe reopening of Marsabit County's Hillo Gold Mines within seven working days.

• This initiative is a direct response to a directive from President William Ruto to intensify efforts against illegal mining nationwide.
• The team, to commence work on July 23rd, includes representatives from the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, and Marsabit County leadership.
• Their assessment will focus on verifying mining areas, validating cooperatives, and advising on regulations to ensure a structured, safe, and sustainable resumption of activities in compliance with the Mining Act, 2016.
