Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho has initiated the process to reopen the Hillo Gold Mines in Marsabit County, following a directive from President William Ruto. A multi-agency team has been tasked to oversee the structured reopening.

• The reopening aims for a safe, orderly, and sustainable resumption of operations, with an intensified nationwide crackdown on illegal mining also ordered.
