Kenya's State Department for Petroleum is partnering with the State Department for Correctional Services to transition over 11,000 institutions, including correctional facilities, from wood fuel to clean energy sources like LPG within the next year.

• 95 percent of institutions currently depend on wood fuel, posing environmental and health risks.
• The initiative is led by Petroleum Principal Secretary Kello Harsama and Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco.
• A pilot phase is underway at Nairobi Remand and Allocation Prison, with plans to extend to all correctional facilities, aligning with national sustainable development goals.
