Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata has announced he will seek re-election in 2027 on the ticket of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

• The governor is the latest politician to align with the DCP, a party founded by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
• Kang'ata previously announced his exit from the ruling UDA party in May.
• He stated his intention to defend his seat using the DCP ticket while remaining a link with the Linda Mwananchi movement.
