A prominent food scientist and rural development expert, Professor Ruth Oniang’o, has urged African governments to dismantle regulatory barriers that hinder innovation and the development of the continent's bioeconomy.

• Professor Ruth Oniang’o stated that regulatory processes can take up to eight years, when they should take much less.
• The call was made during the BioInnovate Africa Making Ideas Investable Boot Camp at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Nairobi.
• She emphasized that Africa's rich natural resources offer immense untapped potential, particularly with rising global demand for natural and organic products.
