Kenyan Parliament is reviewing proposed amendments to the Land Act that could significantly slash the time lenders have to recover loans and sell properties under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).

• The statutory period before lenders can enforce a loan secured by an affordable housing property could be cut from 90 days to 45 days, with the notice period for sale reduced from 40 days to 20 days.
• The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Lands is scrutinising the proposed Business Laws (Amendment) Bill, which has passed the Senate.
• Committee chair Joash Nyamoko stated the committee must determine if the bill promotes investment while protecting borrowers' constitutional rights.
