The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, has been granted expanded powers through amendments to the National Police Service Standing Orders, introducing a new organizational structure for police formations and units.

• The Inspector General now holds the ultimate approval for establishing, varying, or abolishing any formation, unit, or component within the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
• Key police headquarters, the National Police Airwing, National Police Reserve, and the National Police Referral Hospital will now operate directly under the Office of the Inspector General.
• The amendments empower the Inspector General to issue directives for the integration or reorganization of police units and to resolve mandate conflicts between different formations.
