A landmark global trial, ISLEND-1, has found that a new once-weekly HIV pill is as effective as daily treatment, potentially simplifying medication for millions.

• 93.4% of participants on the weekly pill maintained viral suppression, compared to 92.4% on daily treatment.
• The study was presented at the 26th International Aids Conference in Rio de Janeiro.
• Participants on the weekly pill showed higher adherence rates (98.9%) than those on daily treatment (95.8%).
