Kenyan birders James Omenya and Simon Odhiambo have successfully rediscovered the rare Red Weaver bird in Lamu County's Boni-Dodori Forest, marking the first sighting of the species in 12 years.

The discovery ends a 12-year search for the Red Weaver, last recorded in 2014.
The birds were spotted on July 3rd during an expedition funded by the Ornis Birding x Lost Birds Expedition Grants.
The expedition also documented what is believed to be the first modern evidence of the Red Weaver breeding in the Boni-Dodori Forest, with the sighting of a juvenile male.
