The Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (Rerec) is in a race against time to complete a $150 million (Sh20 billion) World Bank-funded project aimed at providing solar electricity and clean water to 14 underserved counties by the September 30 deadline.

• Rerec has just eight weeks to commission 31 solar-powered mini-grids and install 316 solar-powered water pumping systems.
• The project targets remote and arid/semi-arid regions in 14 counties, including Turkana, Marsabit, and Isiolo.
