Motorists renewing their smart driving licences in Kenya are now required to undergo biometric capture before their applications are processed, according to a clarification by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

• Biometric capture is mandatory for all smart driving licence renewals, even if online payment has been made.
• Motorists who have paid online but not yet captured their biometrics must visit an NTSA office or a Huduma Centre.
• This measure is being implemented as the NTSA phases out traditional paper-based licences in favour of the new smart licences, which contain a chip with driver information.
