The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is seeking clarification from Rwandan authorities regarding the suspension of five Kenyan alcoholic beverage brands. The Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (Rwanda FDA) announced the suspension on August 5, 2026.

• Five Kenyan alcoholic beverage brands, including Kenya King Gin, Safari Gin, Avalon, Sweet Berry Potable Spirits, and Gilbey’s Gin, have been temporarily suspended in Rwanda.
• KEBS, the national standards body, is actively engaging with the Rwanda FDA and other regional regulatory bodies to resolve the issue.
• KEBS asserts that the affected products have undergone rigorous testing and comply with applicable Kenyan and East African standards, with recent laboratory analyses confirming their compliance.
