Kenyans aspiring for elective seats in the 2027 General Election will not be required to possess a university degree, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced.

• The IEBC cannot enforce the degree requirement due to court decisions declaring it unconstitutional.
• IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu stated that this position follows court rulings that found the degree requirement discriminatory, potentially excluding 96.5% of Kenyans.
• Candidates must still meet other constitutional and statutory requirements, including citizenship and voter registration.
