The Kenyan government is intensifying its fight against cyber fraud, particularly focusing on mobile money transactions which were involved in half of all reported computer fraud cases between February and July this year.
- 51 out of 102 reported computer fraud cases between February and July involved mobile money, either as a payment method or destination.
- The National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Committee (NC4), chaired by Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo, presented these findings.
- Measures to curb fraud include closer monitoring of high-risk mobile money transactions and faster preservation of digital evidence, with a warning of prosecution for offenders.
