The iconic Great Rift Valley Viewpoint along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway is being demolished to make way for the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway expansion, displacing numerous small-scale traders.
- The highway expansion is part of a 175-kilometre project launched on November 28, 2025.
- Traders, represented by Secretary Bernard Kihiu Njoka of the Kwa Mathore Viewpoint Community based Organisation, have been issued eviction notices by the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha).
- Over 300 traders and their employees are facing loss of livelihood, with some operating at the viewpoint for up to 30 years.
