President William Ruto has announced the release of Sh2.6 billion in compensation for families evicted from the south-west Mau Forest in Narok County.
- 13,000 families will each receive Sh200,000 as compensation, marking the closure of years of suffering for Mau evictees.
- The government has also lifted a caveat on private farmlands around the Mau Forest in Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, and Bomet counties.
- In a broader move, the government has purchased 5,800 acres of land at Kaplelach area to resettle families who had occupied and subdivided property belonging to the late Provincial Commissioner Isaiah Cheluget.
