A Greek firm, Amaco Energy Group, plans to construct a $1.5 billion (Sh194 billion) liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered smart-power system to energize AI data centres in Mombasa, Kenya.

• The offshore system, dubbed Hercules, aims to position Mombasa and Kenya as a regional AI and digital-infrastructure hub.
• The project will be integrated with data centres and built within the Port of Mombasa, operating independently from the national grid to ensure uninterrupted power.
• The system is LNG-based but compatible with hydrogen, and Amaco Energy Group is seeking approvals for construction, estimated to take 28 months.
