Kenya is undertaking a large-scale engineering project to prevent Lake Bogoria and Lake Baringo, separated by less than three kilometers, from merging and causing an ecological disaster.

• The merging of the freshwater Lake Baringo and saline Lake Bogoria could contaminate the former's ecosystem.
• The Kenyan government, supported by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and international partners, is building dykes, dams, and canals.
• This intervention aims to control water levels and prevent further displacement of communities and loss of farmland, which has already seen thousands of acres submerged.
