The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) is urging Kenyans to maximize productivity while simultaneously protecting vulnerable populations from the anticipated heavy rainfall during the October-November-December (OND) short rains season.

• The heavy rains are attributed to a combination of El Nino in the Pacific Ocean and an evolving Indian Ocean Dipole.
• Several counties, including those in the former North Eastern region and Eastern Kenya, are expected to receive over 40% of their annual rainfall during this period.
• The forecast also predicts higher than average temperatures across the country, with specific coastal and northeastern counties likely to experience warmer conditions.
