Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has successfully energized the 72-kilometer 132kV Nanyuki-Isiolo electricity transmission line, more than a decade after construction began in 2012.

• The project is expected to significantly improve electricity reliability and capacity in the Mt Kenya and Upper Eastern regions, including Nanyuki, Isiolo, Meru, and Laikipia.
• KETRACO, the state-owned electricity transmission company, announced an immediate improvement in voltage levels at the Nanyuki substation post-energization.
• The infrastructure includes a new 132kV substation at Isiolo and an expansion of the existing Nanyuki substation, with a 4.2km section redesigned as an underground cable due to security restrictions near Laikipia Air Base.
