The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued a stern warning to religious leaders across Kenya, urging them to refuse and not legitimize funds from politicians suspected to be proceeds of corruption ahead of the 2027 General Election.

• EACC Chairperson David Oginde cautioned that accepting illicit money could lead to politicians rewarding financiers with inflated tenders and manipulated procurement processes.
• The warning was delivered during the National Stakeholders’ Convention in Nairobi, attended by major religious bodies including the NCCK, KCCB, and SUPKEM.
• Concerns were raised that financial strength, rather than merit, is increasingly dominating election campaigns, potentially denying voters the chance to elect capable leaders.
