More than 806 days after Rex Masai was shot and killed during the Gen Z protests in Nairobi, police officers have yet to record statements regarding the incident, according to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

• IPOA stated that officers from Parliament, KICC, Kamukunji, and Kilimani police stations have failed to comply with a court order to provide statements.
• Rex Masai, 29, was shot along Moi Avenue on June 20, 2024, during protests against the Finance Bill 2024 and later died from his injuries.
• The National Police Service cited transfers and departures of record-keeping staff as reasons for the delay, stating they are still collating records.
• The inquest into Masai's death at the Milimani Law Courts is ongoing, with the prosecution arguing that sufficient evidence has already been presented.
