The Democratic Republic of Congo is at a critical juncture in combating the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which has become its deadliest outbreak to date with over 6,186 confirmed cases and 3,007 deaths since May 2026.

• Despite these challenges, significant progress has been made, including improved treatment capacity, expanded laboratory capabilities, and better safe burial practices, with the effective reproduction number falling substantially.
